Prayer

‘Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances’
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

At Westbury Baptist Church prayer takes place in a variety of settings from Sunday services, to prayer groups and in meetings.

Once a month, there is a Prayer Gathering on a Sunday evening, where there are opportunities to pray for matters of national and international concern as well as for the church and for individual situations. People are encouraged to pray in a variety of ways and using different prompts such as DVDs and newspaper articles.

There are regular Prayer Groups during the week. On Monday evenings a variety of simple liturgies are used which give a framework for looking at a passage of scripture and for individual prayers. This is a time for quiet reflection which is valued by those who come. On Tuesday afternoons a group meets either after the Tuesday lunch or at the homes of different members. Prayer focuses on the world, church, community and personal concerns.

The Worship and Prayer Team oversees all aspects of worship and prayer. The function of the team is to facilitate and implement ideas as well as to research and explore new possibilities. At present, the team is working on setting up a Prayer Space within the sanctuary. This would be available throughout the week for anyone who wished to spend some time in quiet prayer. Another new development is that a Prayer Ministry Team is being set up. Members of the team have been undergoing training and the hope is to launch the team in the New Year. Members of the team will then be available to pray after services with anyone who would like prayer for themselves or for a particular situation.

Each week a Prayer Diary is compiled and distributed at our services of worship. The points for prayer are also added to the church Prayer Diary page.
